Park District of Forest Park

Mission Statement

The mission of the Park District of Forest Park is to provide excellence in recreational opportunities through the park, facilities and programs that will enhance the quality of life for Forest Park’s residents and guests.

People, Parks, and Programs

The Park District of Forest Park is committed to building community and the promotion of wellness throughout with our people, parks, and programs:

People

Our friendly staff have been working hard to develop initiatives that keep our community healthy. Some of these initiatives include the Bike to the Pool plan, Make a Healthy Choice concessions initiative, and in conjunction with Loyola University Health Systems and the Forest Park Community Center, the Resources for Our Community’s Kids (ROCK) Health Fair.

Parks

The grounds of the Park District of Forest Park have been called the “crown jewel of the community.” With plenty of open space for both active and passive recreation; as well as a marked walking circuit trail, inline hockey rink, batting cages, softball fields, aquatic center, synthetic turf multi-purpose field, playground, bocce ball courts, skate park, sand volleyball courts, and tennis courts; it’s not hard to see why!

Programs

We have active programs for kids and adults of all ages to encourage everyone to make a healthy lifestyle choice. From swimming lessons to sports camps to dance for the kids, and from aqua aerobics to roller derby to kickboxing for adults, we have something to fit all interests!

Have Fun with Us!

Registration for many of our programs is ongoing, and we have seasonal activity guides that come out in April, August, and December. Please stop by our Administrative Offices at 7501 Harrison for a copy of our current activity guide, or download it from our website at pdofp.org

Park District Saturday Bike Rides:

To recap our now 3 great Saturday am bike rides. We have had an average of 13-15 riders each week, from 3 years old in a bike buggy, pre-teens, teenagers, which yes do wear helmets, to over the age of 54+. We have new people & return riders each week. The veteran cyclists are great at giving pointers to newer riders, from tips of pedaling with the balls of your feet, to the adjustment of the bike seat to get the most efficient pedal power. We also were grateful to have “Havoline Xpress Lube” repair & Oil change business at 1308 S 1st. Avenue in Maywood available to us on our inaugural ride to help inflate our bike tire pressure.

Please see photos posted here.

These rides are a direct result of The Live Healthy Forest Park Mission, steering team, and collaborative inspiration with committee members, Denise Murray & Melinda Holmes Peterson. Melinda, a local Forest Park business owner and residents is also a certified Spin Cycle instructor, and has donated several spin cycles to The Park District of Forest Park, offering Spin Cycle classes starting on Sept., 12th.

Plans are also in the works for a 5 K in the Village at the end of October.
